As some of you guys know, Frank and I closed on our very first house yesterday. Of course we went over right away. We got right to work. Today, I went over after I got out of work with my mom and we got right to work. Actually, we went shopping. I had to get cleaning supplies and paint. $400 dollars later, we got to work.
So.... as you all know I am a complete klutz. Well, 30 minutes into cleaning and picking up, I stepped on a nail. Time to freak out about tetnus! Had to get a shot just in case. All in all, we cleaned the bathroom downstairs, took out all the nails in the walls downstairs, pulled all the paneling off in the "office", pulled up the rug in the dining room, and swept. When you look at the house now it definitely looks better.
So the bad news about the carpet is that the floor underneath it is hardwood, but it is painted white and gray. Hopefully we can sand it and refinish it, but if we can't we will just cover it with carpet. We will be painting this weekend.

Frustration!!!!!!
As you all know, Frank and I are in the process of buying a house. It is really exciting and scary at the same time. When we first started the process, it was fun and we loved going into houses and seeing what there was out there. As time went by, we started not to have so much fun. We ultimately put in about 6-7 bids, with most falling through and us coming in with the second highest bid.
Finally, we found a house that we loved! We looked a tthe house knowing there were already 2 other offers in on it. It had only been on the market for 4 days at that point. We loved it and put a bid on it that night. We found out a few days or so.... I can't remember exactly because it feels like forever ago.... that our offer was accepted! Yay! Because the house is a foreclosure, the bank wanted us to do a home inspection that night or they wouldn't put it in contingency status. On top of that, they wouldn't turn on any of the power, water, or gas. We decided that we would just have my dad go in with Frank and Don to take a look at it. My dad got the water on and the electricity was already on. He said it looked fine and we should offer less than our original offer. We did this.
As the process goes on, it has taken a while to get the financial piece settled. We already put $5500 down and have paid for the assessment (which was $460). We have also started to but some things here and there for the house and thinking about the things we would love to do. Needless to say, we find out today that the assessment came in lower than our offer. We offered $171,000 and the assessment came in at $165,000 (which is weird because when we checked online the city had assessed it at $254,000ish). Anyway, we had to sign more paperwork in hopes that the bank would agree to drop the offer to $165,000. We are hoping they will agree to this, because if they don't one of two things could happen. They could say nevermind and the house falls through and it goes back on the market (we have no house) or we have to come up with $6,000 more (which we don't have, so which means we will ahve to ask his sister for a loan). Either way, this whole process sucks!!!!
I hate dealing with banks. I just want this process to be over and be in our house so we can move forward with other plans we have and start our life together. I will keep you updated as to what happens with this new issue.
